Workforce Solutions Road Map – Temporary Foreign Workers Program
Abr 4, 2022 Publicado en Sin categorizar, Immigration News, Temporary Foreign WorkersMuch like the rest of Canada, Revelstoke and interior resort towns have been experiencing low unemployment rates and high job vacancies. Today, the government of Canada announced measures to improve the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and assist with this shortage. Here are a few key takeaways that will be beneficial for the resort town job markets:
Effective Immediately:
- Labor Market Impact Assessments (LMIS’s) are now valid 18 months – increased from 9 months.
- The Seasonal Cap Exemption for foreign workers in seasonal jobs is now permanent which means there will no longer be a limit to the number of low-wage positions an employers can fill with TFWs. The maximum duration has increased to 270 days per year from 180.
Effective April 30th:
- There will no longer be an automatic refusal to process LMIAs for low-skilled workers in regions where unemployment is over 6%.
- The Accommodation and Food Services were previously capped at hiring only 10% of their workforce as TFWs. This will be increased to 30%.
Our accommodation and food service industries have been suffering for the last couple years and the above measures will help us get back to our pre-COVID workforce levels.
“Today’s announcement is welcome news for Canadian tourism businesses. Employers that need additional staff can benefit from these targeted changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program on their path to recovery. Our Government remains steadfast in its support for the economic growth of the tourism sector. These changes will help to address the labour shortage needs of the industry, while creating economic opportunities in all regions across Canada. ”
– Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance, Randy Boissonnault
